Everything You Need to Know About the CSCS Card Test
The CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) is the industry-standard proof that construction workers in the UK hold the relevant qualifications and health and safety knowledge for their role on site. The most common entry-level card is the CSCS Green Card, also known as the Labourer card, which requires passing the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test for Operatives.
What is the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test?
The CITB HS&E test is administered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and tests your knowledge of health, safety, and environmental best practices on UK construction sites. It is a computer-based, multiple-choice exam consisting of 50 questions with a 45-minute time limit. To pass, you must answer at least 45 out of 50 questions correctly — a pass rate of 90%.
The test is taken at a CITB-approved test centre and currently costs approximately £21 to sit. A pass certificate is valid for 5 years, after which you will need to re-sit the test to renew your CSCS card.
What Topics Does the CSCS Test Cover?
